Conser Homes, Inc. Celebrates Thirty-five years of Business
Albany, Or - The year 2008 marks the 35th anniversary of Conser
Homes, Inc. Conser Homes began operations in 1973 in Corvallis,
Oregon, founded by James F. and J. Rocky Conser as a manufactured
home dealer.
The company was started with the idea that manufactured home
dealership would provide the cash flow to allow the Conser brothers
to purchase and develop real estate. After several years J. Rocky
Conser left the company to pursue a career as a real estate agent.
Jim continued to operate the business and took on a partner in the
late 1970's.
The company moved from Corvallis to Albany in 1980 and Jim bought
out his partner in the early 1980's. In the mid 1980's Jim's
sons began entering the business. In the late 1980's the Conser's
diversified into new home construction and development. In the
1990's, they continued their diversification into real estate sales
and listings as well as mortgage financing.
Highlights over the last thirty five years include the 2000 Austin
Family Small Business of the Year, Oregon State Home Builder of the
Year, and Willamette Valley Builder of the Year. In addition to
delivering hundreds of manufactured homes throughout Oregon, the
Conser's have developed several successful neighborhoods and built
several hundred homes in Albany, Corvallis, Millersburg, and
Tangent.
Recognizing changing market trends Conser Homes exited the
manufactured home and mortgage businesses. Today, the Conser Group
of companies includes a new home building division, a commercial and
residential real estate agency, a real estate development division,
and a real estate investment company.
"With my three boys in the business, I knew we had to grow and
diversify our business. The boys have gravitated toward their
strengths. Greg runs the home building division, Matthew does the
development and commercial real estate sales, and Stuart operates
the real estate division and manages the real estate investment
company," said Jim Conser, the founder. "It has been a great
experience and we have a real synergy - common background, common
values, and common goals," he added. Joking, he said, "With the
boys in the business, I only have to work as hard as I want to now."
